Important note:
Each case study is a snapshot of training in an organisation at a particular point in time. Since winning their award, some organisations may have changed or no longer provide the training featured due to the changing business environment and training methods. In some instances the training may have been a one-off.
What is the Training Databank?
- A free searchable website containing case studies from a selection of winners from the National Training Awards (2001 onwards)

- UK Skills is a not-for-profit organisation which champions skills and learning for work through competitions and awards

Why has the Training Databank been set up?
- The databank aims to disseminate to a wider audience the best practice in training that is seen in National Training Award winners
- The National Training Awards were set up to:
- identify and celebrate those who have achieved success through training
- Disseminate best practice to encourage other to invest in learning and training

What are the National Training Awards?
- An annual award set up in 1986 to recognise and celebrate the people and the organisations which create success through training and personal development.
- They are open to anyone and any business or organisation that has achieved outstanding results through learning and development
- There are three levels of awards: Highly Commended, Regional Training Award*, and a National Training Award. (* Scottish, Wales or Northern Ireland Training Awards in the devolved nations)
- In 2006 there were 51 National Training Award winners
- There are no categories for types of training or organisational size

Who runs the National Training Awards?
- UK Skills manages the awards on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills and organises the awards in England.
- In the devolved nations the awards are:
- managed in Northern Ireland by the Department for Employment and Learning
- supported by the Scottish Executive and promoted in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and Highlands & Islands Enterprise
- organised by The Welsh Assembly Government in partnership with UK Skills on behalf of DFES.

What is in a case study?
- An in-depth look at a particular training programme including the reasons it was established, how it was developed and implemented, and why it was successful
- Each case study is a snapshot of training undertaken by an organisation at a specific point in time

How accurate is the information a case study?
- The information about an organisation and its training programme was correct at the time of each organisation’s National Training Award entry
- Since their entry was submitted:
- the training may no longer be provided by the organisation or may have changed
- information about the organisation may have changed too.
